Ecological Synthesis

We coordinate research efforts on land use, biodiversity and ecosystem functioning. We perform biodiversity synthesis of temperate and tropical ecosystems and investigate how land use intensification affects biodiversity and species interactions, and how biodiversity and land-use intensity affect ecosystem functioning and services. We bridge observational studies and experiments enhancing synergies between multiple international research platforms, in particular the Biodiversity Exploratories, the Jena Experiment and the Kili-Social-Ecological Systems project. We also catalyse synthesis efforts of others by spreading the concepts and statistical methods for synthesis.
